Waitohu School - To Be Our Best

Sports

In term one we hold our school 'Tryathalon'. All students are encouraged to participate in some or all of the swimming, running and cycling events. This event is held at the school.

We are fortunate to have our own school pool, which is in constant use during term one. The emphasis of our swimming programme is on the emergent skills required to swim and water safety. We encourage all parents to contact our local council swimming pool to enquire about formal swimming lessons for your child(ren).

According to the season, sports are held with other schools in the district, for students in Years 4 – 6. These include cross country running, swimming, soccer, touch rugby, rippa rugby, netball and athletics.  For all these events, we hold trials and select teams. All students who wish to play, will be selected for a team. All interschool sports (except netball) are run as a special day organised by a particular school. They are great days where our students get to spend the day enjoying mixing with and playing against their peers from our local schools. Netball is run as a competition, across Terms 2 and 3.

Parents are always needed to help with coaching and managing of sports teams. Our school's sports colours are gold and green.  Parents are invited to all sporting events.
