Waitohu School - To Be Our Best

Tikanga and Te Reo Māori

Tuku Mihi (Giving Thanks)

Everyday every class starts their day with our Tuku Mihi. You may want to try learning and using this with your tamariki.

Kia hora te marino

(May peace be wide-spread)

Kia whakapapa pounamu te moana

(May the sea glisten like greenstone)

 Kia wātea ai te ara

(Making a clear pathway)

He maunga rongo ki te whenua

(From the peace of the mountains to the land)

He whakaaro pai ki ngā tāngata katoa

(Positive thoughts to everyone)

 Me manaaki tētahi ki tētahi

(To look after one another)

 Tihei Mauri Ora

(Good health to us all)

Mihi mo te kai

Everyday every class expresses gratitude for the food and the people they share their meal times with. You may want to try learning and using this with your tamariki.

Nau mai e ngā hua,

(We welcome these foods)

Hei oranga mo te tinana

(To make our bodies healthy)

me te hinengaro.

(and our minds)

E mihi ana

(We thank)

ki ngā tāngata e tau nei,

(these people we eat with)

me te kai e hora nei,

(and the food before us)

Ngā mihi nui

(A special thank you)

Toku Reo

Our classes have begun to use the awesome resource Tōku Reo.        You may want to explore the great lessons and enjoy learning some te reo Māori with your tamariki.
