INTERVIEWS
Ngā mihi to all those whānau who were able to meet with teachers last week. We really appreciate you making the time so we can all be working together for 'our' tamariki. If at any time you have any questions or information to share please don't hesitate to make a time to catch up with your child's teacher.
A beautiful photo of our school captured by Nina King at Parent Teacher interviews last week.
FACEBOOK Waitohu School will soon start a Facebook page. The aim will be to more regularly inform, celebrate student success and share learning with whānau. It is our hope this page will be enjoyed by immediate whānau and those further away who would like to keep connected. Before we start, we would appreciate any whānau who do not want photos of their tamariki shared on our school Facebook page, to please let us know by Friday 5 June. Please let the office know by ringing 06 364 8272 | email office@waitohu.school.nz or calling in to tell us.
ATTENDANCE It is a Ministry of Education aim that by 2030 80% of students attend school 90% of the time.
To provide you with absolute clarity, we are emailing you updates of your child’s attendance, twice a term (mid and end of term). This Monday, you will receive a mid term update. Celebrating great attendance with your child or noting improvement is needed, is the aim of these emails. If improvement is needed, we are here to support.
KEEPING OUR TAMARIKI SAFE AT THE CROSSING
We’ve noticed some potentially dangerous moments around our pedestrian crossing lately and want to ensure everyone gets to and from school safely. Our student road patrol team and supervisors do a fantastic job, but they need your help!
How you can help:
Respect the Signs: When the patrol signs are out, traffic in both directions must come to a complete stop. Please wait until the signs are pulled back in before driving on.
Check Your Speed: Remember that the area outside our school is a variable speed zone. Please slow down to 30km/h during drop-off and pick-up times. Please do not perform U-Turns within the school zone but turn around at the end of Te Manuao Road.
Clear Sightlines: Please do not park on yellow broken lines, on the footpaths or berms or across driveways near the crossing. This ensures our patrollers have a clear view of oncoming traffic and that drivers can see our students clearly.
Lead by Example: If you are walking with your children, please use the designated crossing rather than "nipping across" the road nearby. It helps our students build great safety habits!
