To celebrate Matariki we will be having a special Matariki Hāngī Disco Day on Thursday 2 July.
If possible we ask that all students contribute either a potato, kūmara or a piece of pumpkin to go into our hāngī. The vegetables will be prepared on Wednesday 1 July by students. Can you please ask your child(ren) to give their vegetables to their classroom teacher on or before Tuesday 30 June. School will be providing the meat portion.
On Thursday morning our hāngī pit (on the school field) will be lit at 6.30am. All are welcome to come and be part of this experience. All students will be able to see the kai going into the ground at 9.15am. Around 12.00pm students will watch the kai coming out of the hāngī pit. At around 12.30pm all students will get to enjoy feasting on our hāngī.
The aim is for students to contribute to and learn through experience, about the process of preparing for a hāngī, watching how the kai is cooked and then savouring the hāngī kai.
Disco
Our junior syndicate students (Rooms 1, 2, 8, 10 & 11) will be able to enjoy this fun between 10.50am and 12.00pm. Between 1.15pm and 2.30pm our senior syndicate students (Rooms 3, 4, 5, 6 & 12) will get to have their turn.
All students will be experiencing and enjoying the hāngī at 12.30pm.
As always the hall blinds will be closed, the disco ball will be up and dancing games are being organised. Coming dressed up or in bare feet, both are perfect! There will be some treats for the students to enjoy.
Parents who would like a smile are most welcome to join us for the fun.
What a magic Matariki celebration day we are hoping to have. Please note that lunch in schools will be served
at 10.30am on this day.
